Kampala. Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court on August 23, 2017 convened a stakeholder meeting at the court. According to the Chief Magistrate, HW Jameson Karemani, the meeting was aimed at providing a platform for the court's users to deliberate on improving efficient service delivery.

"We have had several meetings with the State Attorneys but never with the investigators. This arrangement is the first one of its kind since I came here. We felt like we should sit together to share challenges and expectations," HW Karemani said.

Among the issues that were discussed were improving the preparation and attendance of witnesses to testify in court as well as best practices in the management of exhibits.

"You must know the ingredients of an offence, that is what is required to prove a case," HW Karemani said.

During the discussion, it was noted that there needs to be better communication among court users, mushrooming phony sureties at court as well as mismanagement of accused persons' property.

Court Users Committees are forums that are used to bring to account all court participants to solve shared problems. The Committees were borne out of a need to coordinate responses to criminal and other justice issues by the Judiciary. They provide an avenue to address in an open consultative approach, a broad range of administration of justice matters both precautionary as well as responsive.
